The two Keynotes and all Sessions will be livestreamed on the event website’s homepage during the three days of the festival. If you’re busy at work or on the other side of the planet with a tricky time difference, you can watch the session recordings later on the Google Developers YouTube channel.
Yes! Every year, developers around the world host Google I/O Extended events. During these events, organizers can livestream the event and host their own sessions including hackathons, codelabs, demos, and more.
If you’re joining us as an I/O Extended host this year, here are the steps you should take to get started:
- Read through the Organizer Guide to get tips and suggestions on how to host a successful event.
- Register your public event on the I/O website for increased visibility.
- Join the I/O Extended 2018 Organizers Google+ Community to exchange ideas with other hosts.
- Use the official #io18extended hashtag on all your social posts related to I/O Extended for easier discoverability.
Note: I/O Extended hosts can request the deletion of their personal and/or event data after the event ends by emailing io18@google.com.

Registration for Google I/O includes three full days of Sessions, Codelabs, Demos, App Reviews, Office Hours, admission to the After Hours reception, and attendance at the Keynotes. We also provide complimentary breakfast, lunch, and snacks each day. In addition, attendees receive a festival badge and may be offered additional gifts. If you aren’t sure whether the professional guidelines for your school, university, organization, or agency would allow you to accept these items, please check with your local ethics officer before the event. The food and gifts are optional, so it may be possible to attend Google I/O even if you cannot accept any giveaways.
There are two ways to get a ticket: by applying to the ticket drawing or via invitation.
Anyone interested in development as a career or as a passion is welcome to apply between 10am PST on February 22nd, 2018 and 5pm PST on February 27th, 2018. The order in which ticket applications are received has no bearing on the final outcome — so no rush, you'll have plenty of time to apply! Once the window closes, we'll randomly select applicants from among all of the qualified applications and notify those selected via email on February 28th, 2018.
To submit an application you’ll need to:
- Sign in with a Google account or Gmail address of your choosing.
- Complete the required form fields, including which ticket type you’re applying for (General Admission: $1,150; Academic Admission: $375).
- Provide payment details. Your card will only be charged if you’re selected on February 28th. If you’re not selected, the pre-authorization payment will be automatically released by your bank within 7 days.
Once you've successfully completed the application, you’ll reach a confirmation screen and receive an email confirming your application submission shortly thereafter.
We offer a limited number of tickets at a discounted rate of $375 for academia. To qualify, you need to be an active full-time student, professor, faculty, or staff at a high school or higher education institution. This also includes those who will graduate in 2018 prior to the event. Once purchased, general admission tickets can't be converted to academic tickets, and vice versa. When you check in at the festival, you'll need to provide a current school ID, transcript, credential, or other form of documentation which demonstrates that you’re qualified to receive this special rate. If you buy an academic ticket and can't provide academic documentation when you arrive at Google I/O, you won't be admitted or offered a refund, nor will you be able to convert your ticket to General Admission.

We’ll be offering a limited number of press passes to qualified members of the media. To submit a request, please fill out this form. If you have additional questions, please email googleiopress@google.com for more information. Please note that we’ll have a limited number of press passes available and we’ll be vetting all requests. Filling out the form doesn’t guarantee you a press pass. Our team will contact you if we’re able to accommodate your request.
Attendees must be at least 15 years of age to attend Google I/O. 15, 16, and 17-year-old attendees don’t require an adult to accompany them; however, they must provide a signed version of the parental consent form received via email in advance of the event. In addition, Google doesn’t offer chaperone tickets for 15, 16, and 17-year-old attendees.
If you aren’t a resident of the United States, you should check with your local government to determine the required documents and arrangements needed for your travel to this country. If you require a visa letter regarding your Google I/O attendance, please indicate this when completing the registration form, and we’ll email it to you within 7 business days. If you haven’t received your letter or have questions regarding the process, you can contact io18@google.com. Google is unable to contact an embassy on your behalf.
- Each individual may purchase only one ticket. Tickets for Google I/O are for the full three-day festival, and no single-day tickets are available.
- The following cards will be accepted as a method of payment: Amex, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, and Visa.
- You may not register on behalf of anyone else.
- Google I/O tickets must be used by the original registrant and are non-transferable.
- By registering and accepting any discounts, gifts, or items of value related to Google I/O, you certify that you are able to do so in compliance with applicable laws and the internal rules of your organization.
- Tickets may not be sold, bartered, auctioned, or transferred in any way, and doing so may result in Google rendering the ticket null and void without any responsibility to Google.
- At check-in, we’ll check your photo ID prior to assigning you your Google I/O badge. We're OK with government-issued licenses, passports, and other forms of identification. If you don’t have proper identification, you won’t be able to receive a badge and won’t be admitted into the festival. Please make sure to register using the name that matches the government-issued photo ID you’ll be presenting when you check in to the festival.
- If you buy an academic ticket and can't provide academic documentation during check-in at Google I/O, you won't be admitted or offered a refund, nor will you be able to convert your ticket to general admission. Please be sure to bring a current school ID or other proof that you are qualified to receive this special rate when you check in at the festival.
- Ticket purchases can be refunded through April 10, 2018, via your I/O profile page.
- After April 10, 2018, all ticket sales are final. There will be no refunds or exchanges regardless of weather conditions, session availability, or any other circumstance.
- Attendees must be at least 15 years of age to attend Google I/O. 15, 16, and 17 year old attendees don’t require an adult to accompany them; however, they must provide a signed version of the parental consent form received via email in advance of the event. - Attendees aren’t permitted to bring guests to Google I/O, to the After Hours party, or to the After Hours concert. If you have someone traveling with you, they’ll need to register themselves and purchase an attendee ticket.
- Photographs and/or video taken at Google I/O by Google, or others on behalf of Google, may include your image or likeness. You agree that Google may use such photographs and/or video for any purpose without compensation to you.
- All information entered into the registration form must be correct and accurate to the best of your knowledge. All information must be entered in English. Some of the information entered (such as name, company, and the photo you upload), will be displayed on the attendee badge.
- By registering for a ticket you acknowledge that your information will be used in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy & Terms of Service.
- Google I/O badges may contain NFC, BLE, or other RFID technologies to help us serve attendees and determine participation in various Sessions and activities.
- All registered attendees agree to allow Google to contact them regarding their registration and attendance at the event. By registering for a ticket, you agree to allow Google to communicate with you via email with information regarding the event.
- Attendance at Google I/O is not allowed by the following:
- residents of embargoed countries;
- individuals ordinarily resident in embargoed countries; or
- individuals otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs.
- You agree to be solely responsible for your own safety, belongings, and well-being while participating in Google I/O. Google LLC and its affiliates won't be liable for your participation in Google I/O.
- No solicitation or selling of items or services is allowed at Google I/O. Any attendee conducting these activities may be removed from the festival.
- Applicants and attendees can request the deletion of their registration data after the event ends by emailing io18@google.com.
Yes. This will allow our global audience to follow along.
Starting in April, in-person attendees can reserve seats for Sessions in advance of the event on the I/O website and also via the I/O mobile app (note: a portion of Session seats will be exempt from reservations and available first-come, first-served onsite). Attendance at Codelabs, App Reviews, and Office Hours is on a first-come, first-served basis onsite.

To expedite the check-in process, we’ll begin badge pickup on Monday, May 7, at Shoreline Amphitheatre. To give you your Google I/O badge, we’ll need to:
- Verify your photo ID. We’re OK with government-issued licenses, passports, and other forms of identification. If you don’t have proper identification, you won’t be able to receive a badge and won’t be admitted into the conference. The name on your ID needs to be an exact match of your registration profile. If you’re an Academic attendee, please remember to bring proof of eligibility.
- Scan your registration QR code received via email. You can scan it from your phone—no need to print the email! #savetheenvironment
Please note, you may not share, give, or otherwise provide your badge to anyone. Google I/O badges aren’t replaceable, so don't lose yours or you won’t be readmitted to the conference. You must wear your Google I/O badge to gain admission to Google I/O, including the Sessions, Sandboxes, and After Hours. If requested by security, please display or provide additional identification. Google I/O badges may include your name, company or organization (if provided), and photo.
Everyone is guaranteed a seat for the Keynotes, but the best seats will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis during badge pickup beginning at 7am on May 7th. So make sure to come by early!
Google I/O is an outdoor developer event, so please be comfortable and casual. There is no enforced dress code. The Bay Area can get very hot during the day and chilly in the evenings, so take this into consideration when planning your attire.
Attendees are offered complimentary breakfast, lunch, and snacks on all three days of the conference. Dinner will also be available on Day 1 and 2 during the After Hours events.
We got your back! The lost & found station will be located at the Conference Help Desk during event hours. Any items left overnight will be turned over to the Conference Security Office. One important detail: Google I/O badges aren’t replaceable, so don't lose yours or you won’t be readmitted to the conference!
These are two nights you don’t want to miss! Attendees are invited to enjoy music, games, and more during the evening of May 8, and to an exclusive concert in the Amphitheatre on May 9. Food and drinks will be available on both nights (alcoholic beverages available for those 21 and over). Both After Hours events are hosted at Shoreline Amphitheatre, and your attendee badge is required for entrance.
Google strives to make events open and accessible to everyone, regardless of disability or special needs. Participants with disabilities and/or special needs should provide details in the registration form and/or by emailing us at io18@google.com. This information will be kept private and will be distributed only to the individuals who need to know it to accommodate your request. Otherwise, please approach the Help Desk at Google I/O if you need assistance or have questions about accessibility during the event.
Shoreline Amphitheatre is an entirely outdoor venue. While the Keynotes will be taking place in an open-air amphitheatre, the Sessions will take place in enclosed areas. All areas of the venue are accessible for wheelchair users, and there will be a limited number of wheelchairs available on a first-come, first-served basis. Wheelchairs can be checked out at the First Aid station and returned at the end of each day. Additionally, there will be a service dog relief area.
We’ll provide live real-time transcription (CART) for the Keynotes and Sessions. Caption text displayed on a large screen at the front of the room will be accessible to all attendees. We’ll also use the text to provide captions for our livestream and post-event recordings.
If you need an ASL interpreter to accompany you in the Sessions at Google I/O, please let us know during registration and we’ll be happy to provide one for you. We’ll do our best to find a technical translator who is familiar with the domain, but please keep in mind that the interpreter probably won’t be able to meet with the speakers beforehand.
ADA parking spaces will be available. When arriving at the venue, please follow signs for ADA parking. Please have your placard hanging from your rearview mirror and visible to parking employees at all times to expedite the parking process. Accessible parking spaces are readily available on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be reserved in advance to fairly serve all attendees.
We’ll have expectant mother parking spaces in the ADA area.
Mothers who are nursing are welcome to attend the conference with their child. There will be two mothers' rooms open on May 8 & 9 from 8am - 8pm and on May 10 from 8am - 4pm. Sign up sheets will be available in front of the mothers’ rooms and usage is first-come, first-served. Please see the conference help desk for more information.
Childcare reimbursement of USD $100 per day (not exceeding USD $300 total) will be offered to parents attending that express interest in childcare via our registration form, and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Our childcare reimbursement is offered through a third-party vendor. If your request for childcare is approved by us via email before the conference starts and your onsite attendance is confirmed, our vendor will reach out to you with next steps within 7 business days following Google I/O. They will manage all disbursement of our childcare disbursement.

Be excellent to each other. Treat everyone with respect. Participate while acknowledging that everyone deserves to be here — and each of us has the right to enjoy our experience without fear of harassment, discrimination, or condescension, whether blatant or via micro-aggressions. Jokes shouldn’t demean others. Consider what you are saying and how it would feel if it were said to or about you.
Speak up if you see or hear something. Harassment is not tolerated, and you are empowered to politely engage when you or others are disrespected. The person making you feel uncomfortable may not be aware of what they are doing, and politely bringing their behavior to their attention is encouraged.
Practice saying "Yes and" to each other. It’s a theatre improv technique to build on each other’s ideas. We all benefit when we create together.

- Sustained disruption of talks or other events
- Offensive verbal language

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Our zero-tolerance policy means that we’ll look into and review every alleged violation of our Event Community Guidelines and Anti-Harassment Policy and respond appropriately. We empower and encourage you to report any behavior that makes you or others feel uncomfortable by finding a Google staff member or by emailing googleiocommunity@google.com.
Event staff will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing discomfort or harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
This policy extends to Sessions, forums, workshops, Codelabs, social media, parties, hallway conversations, all attendees, partners, sponsors, volunteers, event staff, etc. You catch our drift. Google reserves the right to refuse admittance to, or remove any person from, any Google-hosted event (including future Google events) at any time in its sole discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, attendees behaving in a disorderly manner or failing to comply with this policy, and the terms and conditions herein. If a participant engages in harassing or uncomfortable behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including a warning or expelling the offender from the conference with no refund.
